<![CDATA[I was delighted to meet Jonah and Kimberly for their engagement session and so excited to photograph their wedding this fall. If I haven't met and talked with my brides (and sometimes the grooms), engagement sessions are a fun way for us to get to know each other and work together before the big day.
Kimberly and her mom requested a location with green trees, some flowers and a little water. They wanted light and airy, fun images. I was happy that I had a spot that would work and they provided the cuteness and romance.

Honestly some of my favorite sessions to shoot are the ones where we have an idea of our general location and style but we are spontaneous and get in the car and stop every time I see something that looks fun. This was our adventure and all of the fun looks we got by doing that. Thanks for going with the flow Trey and Madi!
In all the years I have been photographing outdoor sessions, I’ve never come across a rattlesnake in the wild. I’ve seen them other places (and heck, my son had a pet snake for like 6 years!), but today was the first time for everything. As I was backing up to take one of our shots, I heard the low bush next to me start to move like crazy. It was loud, like a sprinkler coming on strong. The snake was just as scared as we were and luckily, I didn’t step on it or too close to it. We stopped and checked it our for a bit, freaked out a little, and then moved on to another spot. My husband is always warning me to watch my step and I’m gonna be a little more aware from now on that’s for sure.
I’m so excited to photograph Trey and Madi’s wedding this September! They are darling together as you can see.

<![CDATA[2016 highlights
Just putting together this post was a labor of love, whew! I really should keep up on my everyday blogging (business AND personal) than this wouldn’t have been such a hard task! I really need two of me ;). This recap is a good reminder of why I ended the holidays totally exhausted! But in a good way. 2016 was great!
Things I am proud of:

 • I consider all of my clients, my friends. I love my old ones and my new ones! I have THE BEST clients/friends! Thank you all for being so trusting in me.
 • I stayed true to my diverse portrait and wedding portfolio. My personality and attention span doesn’t lend itself to doing just one thing so I’m grateful I get to do photograph seniors, engagements, expectations, announcements, bridals, weddings, new additions, the occasional high school dance, and extended families. And design several custom cards along the way. I know most business coaches would tell me to narrow that down (and truthfully, doing it this way does make it trickier to get my processing times down) but looking back on my work, I’m glad that I haven’t. I love all of it.
 • New to my business this year were styled/collaboration shoots. I loved, loved these. Last February, I was on my way to Photo Native, a photography workshop in Utah. We had a fiasco flying Allegiant Airlines (sat in the airport for two days with ridiculous weather/operations delays and horrible service…won’t get into that here and now, but we missed the workshop). To drown our sorrows, my photog friend Adele and I set up our first personal project/styled shoot of the year. That weekend, I went and bought a new camera and lens (yes, a pity party haha) and we had a great afternoon shooting. From that experience, I committed to taking time each month to shoot more personal projects. I am so glad I did. It rejuvenates me as an artist. And on top of that, I have been able to collaborate with some awesome vendors – there are so many talented people out there!
 • In all seriousness, I am proud to say that I have the Netflix binge watching while editing thing down to a science now. 😉

It’s hard not to compare yourself to others and wonder if you measure up. It’s hard to compete on social media, especially when as a busy mom of teenagers, working full time and running a household, serving in my church and community and also trying to have a social life ;), I am often pulled in many directions. I have lots to improve on and hope to do a few things differently going forward. I feel so lucky to do what I love. Thank you for supporting me!
Here’s to an amazing 2017!

<![CDATA[I can't say enough how about how much I adore this couple. In one meeting, I felt such a genuine connection of two super down to earth, kind and connected people. They are getting married in her hometown in Colorado this summer and I'm so jealous of the beautiful landscapes they will have there for that! In the meantime, we treated them to some beautiful Arizona desert. They are both in medical school and off to more schooling in the fall and I wish them all the best!

<![CDATA[I met up with cute Blake and Ashley for an early morning engagement session before Ashley had to drive back to California (they are living in two different states right now – bummer for them!). They braved the cool temperatures, but we got some great morning light and had a great time. Here are some of my favorite shots:

<![CDATA[Cody and Callie are from NJ and were in town visiting family. They are planning a "Woodstock" themed barn wedding in the fall and wanted some shots of them here in Arizona. I was glad we had the sun out for at least part of the session and with all of the rain we've had, the desert is green and looking so beautiful.

<![CDATA[I'm excited to be photographing Collin and Cassie's wedding this fall at The Elegant Barn. One of the options I have in my wedding packages is a mini engagement session which is great for a few fun shots of the couple for Save the Dates or announcements/invitations or whatever! I think we got some great shots of the two of them (despite poor Cassie passing out on us towards the end of the shoot from dehydration – dang heat! Good thing I had a fan and some water handy.) Collin and Cassie are great together!

I loved meeting up with these beautiful couple to photograph their engagement! They have been a couple since they were young teenagers and I love those kinds of stories.
